Martial Arts is one of the most loved types of movie genre among fighting fans. At a certain point in our lives, we all have been a fan of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, though I still am, my motivation for Martial arts isn’t just what we see in movies, it’s much more than that.    The world is a weird and wonderful place even the most ordinary, boring, everyday stuff can turn out to have a crazy or have a bizarre backstory.  We have put together a quick list of 5 crazy facts that we found out about martial arts you should know.

Superhuman? mutants, but not what you think it is. The deadliest form of martial arts is Muay Thai. The Muay Thai practitioners are practically like mutants, as strong as the wolverine, they break their own bones to get super strong skeletons,  the bones grow out to be stronger. They are fierce, if they can do this to their own selves, just imagine what they can do to others.

Ever wondered how the colour scheme of belts came about? They say don’t mess with the black belt whenever it comes to martial arts. What I used to think that there might be a mystic origin for the colour scheme, however, we found out that they dyed the same cloth over and over again until the last colour turned out to be black, and that made black the colour of seniority.

Jackie Chan is one of the most famous actors who perform his own martial arts stunts. One of  Chan party tricks is his ability hold an egg in his hand while breaking twelve concrete blocks without the egg breaking. Impressive!

Oliver Queen from the Arrow is a superhero, but ninjas are not super humans as some think. The skill of catching arrows in the air seems astonishing enough to make one believe that ninjas have super powers yet they don’t. Arrows are slower than a bullet yet easier to track the path leading to the fact that you can catch it.  Anthony Kelly has held a record for catching 33 arrows out of the air, yet he has no super powers.

 

A Hybrid – Dance and Martial Arts

Capoeira is a form of martial arts that is infused with dance. Originally thought to be created in Brazil.  However we have discovered that was originated in Africa, it is a ritual dance combined with fighting techniques. Dance it off!  It has been suggested that capoeira was first created during the 16th century by slaves who were taken from West Africa to Brazil by the Portuguese colonists.  Prohibited from celebrating their cultural customs and strictly forbidden from practising any martial arts, capoeira is thought to have emerged as a way to get around these two imposing laws.

 

In collating this quick list, it certainly made me feel that there is so much out there that I don’t know about martial arts and its origins. I am excited as I start to research and find out more interesting facts to share with you.
